Daily Comic Journal: April 5, 2017: “It’s Like We’re All Together In The Same Room.”
To be truthful here, I started hanging out with all the other movie fans on twitter at #TCMParty in February, during TCM’s 31 “Days of Oscar”. I thought I might not continue hanging with them and chiming in, but I find myself doing it more often than not.
And if it wasn’t for the fun commentating with everyone, there’s no way I could have sat through “Queen of Outer Space” without them. Cause….. it’s….. it’s not a good film.
I DVR’d Queen and just watched it yesterday evening (Mainly so I could say I’d seen a Zsa Zsa movie.) As you note, it was a terrible (but laughable) movie and special effects. (And nobody noticed that accent when Zsa Zsa put on the mask to impersonate the real queen??? SMH). I don’t have the capability to Tweet, but I did record a lot of movies during TCM’s 31 days. I’m trying to give my adult son a lesson in some of the classics – he really liked Treasure of the Sierra Madre which is one we watched this past weekend. Haven’t gotten him turned onto silents yet (some of my favorites), though my daughter watched Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with me. Movies are a great way to forget about things for a while, and with things going on the way they are, many of us need to block out the actual world for a while. Keep on watching.
That’s great! You know, one of the regrets I have in my life is that I never had any children, and I admit, that’s mostly a selfish regret. Because I’d LOVE to have a son or daughter to introduce to all these great films and TV shows I watched while growing up. There’s something really satisfying and fun about watching a classic with someone when they’re seeing it for the first time. It’s as if you’re watching it for the first time too!
Not sure if you’ll see this post on an old comic, but my son moved in with his fiancee a year ago, so we don’t watch movies any more. However, he is coming over this Sunday (Steeler game takes up Saturday for him) to watch The Sting, which he’s never seen. Looking forward to it.
