Actress Alicia Vikander had a bit of a breakout year in 2015.  She was very good in the underrated “Ex Machina”, was good in the underrated “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and really shines here, in the difficult role of artist Gerda Wegener. She needs to portray a person dealing with an unfathomable situation (unfathomable during the time that she lived) with both confusion and understanding (along with the occasional bout of anger) and to make it work. She does an award worthy performance here.
