Because of Mark Ruffalo’s outspokenness towards environmental or inequality issues, it’ll be very easy for audiencess to ignore or reject this movie, sight unseen. And that would be a shame. This story is true and it’s frightening to see people or groups with power (see the Flint, Michigan water situation) not only take advantage of people but to also put their health and lives in danger and get away scot free. So to watch a story with a real life hero going against those abusing their power, I guess in a way, this could be considered a superhero film.

After all, Ruffalo is an Avenger.
