Siemens isn’t unique with this way of thinking. When I was at Hallmark, for example, they start most artists out there as “Artist 1”. Then, eventually they’re promoted to “Artist 2” and if they continue doing well, “Artist 3”. Finally, they’re made Manager or Supervisor. But those positions are nothing but figuring out budgets and sitting thru meetings. So, if you’re a talented or creative artist at Hallmark and you stay there long enough, you eventually get rewarded with…not doing creative artwork anymore? Never made sense to me.
