Daily Comic Journal: February 7, 2022: “I, Love This Series!”
Since I’m talking about the TV series “I, Claudius” today and naming the actors and the characters they played, I of course, had to mention (and add a picture) of Patrick Stewart (as Sejanus) who, in 1976 when he played this character, had a full head of hair.
Great series! I remember involved discussions at work the mornings following the PBS airings. The one thing everyone agreed on – Livia was such a B—-I-T-C-H!!!
I read an article about Sian Phillips where she said that when they started rehearsing she didn’t quite know how to play Livia. Eventually she decided to play her broadly and if you notice, she never blinks. She consciously forced herself not to blink when the camera was on her, to give Livia a snake like quality.
It definitely worked – “snake-like” would be one of the milder descriptions for Livia.
