Now I’m not saying that I don’t like these songs or Jim Croce, actually I do like him and his music. I’ve always been a fan of the singer/songwriters. It’s just that both songs are so eerily similar.

Leroy Brown is the big tough bully, until he falls for the wife of a jealous man. That man confronts Leroy, fights him and when it was over, Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone.

Meanwhile, Jim Walker is the big tough bully, until he took all the money from a man from Alabama named Willie McCoy, but back home they call him Slim. Slim comes to the city to get his money back. Down at the pool hall, Slim confronts Jim and when the cutting’ were done the only part on Jim that wasn’t bloody was the soles of the big man’s feet.

Now I realize there are dozens and dozens of songwriters who write hundreds of love songs and many of them are pretty damn similar so why shouldn’t we have two similar songs about the comeuppance about two tough guy bullies?
