Daily Comic Journal: May 10, 2023: “My Spit Take.”
Maybe it’s just me, but when I’m at a doctor’s office, dentist’s office, or any kind of office I tend to look around and make observations. Especially if I’m just sitting in the office, waiting. I’m old enough to remember going to the dentist, as a kid in the 1960’s, when the dentist worked on your teeth, or the hygienist as in today’s comic worked, that the spit bowl, or cuspidor as it’s known, was always a presence. The water constantly swirling and swirling. I don’t exactly know when dentists stopped using them. I’m thinking the dentist I’ve been going to, since I moved back to this area in 2018 has never had the spit bowl, but it’s my guess that perhaps it’s just another thing that was normal tools in a profession. that has disappeared.

Think that is an American thing. At least my Danish dentist has still got the bowl, although the water will only swirl after you (or the dentist) has pushed a button and will stop again after 10-20 seconds. (Just for the record: I’d estimate my dentist to be in her early 40’ies, so it’s not a case of her being a conservative old fogey)
