Daily Comic Journal: May 28, 2021: “If Employers Wont Be Loyal Why Should The Employee Be?”
Does this entire diatribe mean I won’t apply to any Contract Jobs? Well, It’s been almost four months since my job was taken away and sent to India, and though I’ve applied to 70+ jobs I still haven’t even gotten an interview. So, despite my disdain for this hiring practice… beggars can’t be choosers.
In theory, contract jobs pay a higher hourly rate to somewhat offset the lack of perks and benefits. (At least that was the way it worked at my former company a few decades ago, when contractors were paid $20-$30/ hour more than my hourly rate.) However, the loyalty and team concepts disappeared a long time ago. As a salaried employee, I was expected to work overtime when needed to meet schedule without additional compensation. However, the opposite – when I finished my work assignments in less than 40 hrs/week – wasn’t equivalent. I couldn’t get full pay for working fewer hours. Of course, as they continued to cut resources, there always was too much work to do for the number of employees who were left, so that situation rarely, if ever, occurred. Good luck, Richard, I hope your search has been successful.
