I kind of surprised myself when I saw the trailer for this and thought “Hey, that doesn’t look bad” considering the history I’ve had with this Science Fiction/Fantasy book. But hey, I can be open minded at times and the ticket was only $5, so why not. Besides the sleek look and the fine cast I think what really helped this version succeed, where the ’84 version failed, was that these days movie studios aren’t afraid to split a film into two parts if they feel they need that extra time to tell the story. Especially if it’s with a known property with a fan base. I just might try reading that book again. This time I can use the visuals of this film in my mind as I read it. It might help.
