Daily Comic Journal: December 9, 2018: “You There, Computer Man. Fix My Pants!”
The series originally ran from 2006-2013 (25 episodes) and starred Richard Ayoade, Katherine Parkinson and Chris O’Dowd (who’s probably the best known in America for “Bridesmaids” and the HBO series “Girls”). The absurdness of the nerd IT workers and their clueless manager (along with their over-the-top boss) is responsible for the humor here.
Here’s the synopsis from IMDB:
“Deep in the sub basement of the ambiguous company of Reynholm Industries, are not one, but two socially awkward IT guys. Moss (Richard Ayoade), an electronics wizard and overly naive man and Roy (Chris O’Dowd ), a lazy disgruntled co-worker have to provide support for Reynholm Industries with their inept boss, Jen (Katherine Parkinson), who doesn’t know the difference between hardware and software. The show revolves around Moss and Roy’s antics both at work and out socially, which always ends badly.”
I have been through the whole series twice, and it’s as much fun the second time.
If you like Matt Berry in over-the-top mode, you might like to check out “Toast of London” also on Netflix. It is way more outlandish and probably too weird for a lot of people (and much more ribald).
I saw him as the vampire Laszlo on the TV version of “What We Do In The Shadows” on FX and he was hilarious in that.
