Hopefully, the point I was trying to get across in this comic, gets across. Besides the banality of this whole story, that many media outlets have wasted time and space on, what gets me the most when I hear the rage over any type of entertainment, be they books, movies, songs, TV shows, etc… is this:

When a creator writes a book, like in this instance, it’s his book. His characters. His story. A reader can buy that book and own it for the rest of their lives and that book will always be THEIR book. The book, but NOT the characters, the storylines, etc… If they make sequels to that book featuring the same characters, that same reader can agree or disagree with the direction they took with those characters in that book. They can love it or hate it, but that’s as far as it goes. They can’t tell the creator what direction to take those characters, they can’t tell the creator that they’re wrong, because it’s NOT theirs. It’s the creators’. And when the creator passes away, if he gives total control of those books and characters to their estate, then it’s the property of the estate. NEVER the property of the readers or audience.
