From 1980 thru the early 2000’s I used to fly a lot. I’d fly back at least twice each year to visit my family and would fly throughout the country and abroad for vacations. But when I moved to the Philadelphia area I was within driving distance from my family’s home so I began driving much more. I’d rent a car to drive and visit them and also take vacations within driving distance. It wasn’t until a few years ago though, that it dawned on me that I haven’t been traveling by air.

And yes, what I describe in my comic is true!  I was in the Toronto airport waiting to go through customs when the Northeast Blackout of 2003 hit.

As you can see in the above map, that blackout covered a lot of Canada and the Northeast. In fact, when we did finally get a rent-a-car we had to drive from an area with no power through an area with no power to our destination, a city with no power. One of these days I’n going to have to write/draw a lengthy comic depicting what happened.
