I suppose I should feel lucky. Both Linus and Lucy are ten years old and with the exception of a slight singed paw (several years ago Linus had jumped up on the stove top when one of the burners hadn’t completely cooled off yet) neither cat has been ill or sick. They’ve been thankfully healthy. I realize now that they’re getting older I should be prepared for their health declining, though I’m not sure if I’ll be able to afford any high costs that I may incur because of any health problems, if I don’t start earning an income.

My inability to do anything for Lucy (and of course her inability to tell me what was hurting her) coupled with the waiting and waiting made me feel even more helpless. I’ve been reading how certain industries have had difficulty keeping staff positions filled, since the pandemic, and veterinaries are one of them. I guess that, plus the fact that it’s 2:00-3:00 on a Sunday morning (or late Saturday night) also has something to do with the shortage of their staff.

But we now have to wait at least six more hours? And Lucy is still distressed?
