Daily Comic Journal: December 13, 2021: “Tonight, Tonight, The World Is Full Of Light.”
When I was coming up with the gag for this comic review I know I COULD have had the (San Jose) Sharks fighting the (Winnipeg) Jets, to depict the Sharks/Jets rumble, but I thought it would be funnier to have those Sharks fight the (New York) Jets. So it would be hockey players fighting football players.
I think it works better with NHL-NFL, as that magnifies the cultural differences. Also, I haven’t yet seen the remake (yeah, even 2 years later; I’ll catch it when TCM runs it as a double feature with the original), but I’m heartened by your review, as I had similar concerns.
Yeah, I had done a quick sketch of hockey players on both sides of the rumble and it just looked like a hockey fight. I was fortunate that there were two different teams in two different sports named “Jets” to help make this gag work.
I was glad I was able to take my 92 year old mom to see this on the big screen too.
