Daily Comic Journal: July 4, 2019: “When Did Independence Day Become Selfish Day?”
Is this a new phenomenon? I don’t remember this over all obsession for neighbors to shoot off fireworks, all through out the day on the 4th, well into the next morning. Could it be that my memory is faulty, or maybe the fact that while I was growing up, the owning and shooting of fireworks were illegal?
Look, I know that people like fireworks, and it’s their right to do so, but don’t the rest of the people within earshot have the right not to have to hear the constant booming all through the day? And ESPECIALLY, through the night?
You’re lucky it’s only one day. I moved here about 18 years ago, and someone nearby thinks it’s Independence Week rather than “day” – depending on where the 4th falls on the calendar, the fireworks begin 3-5 days before and continue at least 1 or 2 days after the 4th. I actually called the police once, about 10 years ago (fireworks were illegal then), when they were still going off at midnight.
