Daily Comic Journal: May 8, 2021: “I Thought You Help Out Friends Because They’re Your Friends.”
Did I overreact here? Did I make too much about his e-mail?
Well, a little over 30 years ago I had the opportunity to end some freelance work to an artist friend of mine. I called him but got his answering machine so I left a message. I didn’t hear back from him the next day, so do you know what I did? I called him again. This time I got a hold of him. I asked him if he’d gotten my message and if he did, would he want the job. He said that he had missed my call so we talked about the project. He said he’d like to do it and he wound up doing not only that job but also some other work for Hasbro.
See how simple that was. Now why this guy was being such a dick about this…
Full disclosure, I’ve known this guy since the late 70’s and he could be a dick back then too, but you’d think people would grow wiser as they get older. I guess not.
He texted you and left you a voicemail…you didn’t respond…What elese are you doing? I don’t blame the guy. You’re trying everything to get work, he throws you a line trying to help…and doesn’t get a thanks day of, I’d be like whats this guys deal too..
So, you’ve known someone for over 30 years (like I’ve known Paul)
and you’ve never screwed the guy over for anything and only treated him like a friend (like I’ve done for Pail)
and you don’t hear back that evening for a voicemail that you left earlier that day and your FIRST idea with how to respond is to send a dick e-mail like this?
You don’t reach out the next day to see if he got the message? You don’t check in to see if he’s okay?
I don’t know how you treat friends but I sure the hell don’t treat them like a dick.
